Hair, Or Why the Bald Baby Wearing the Pink Coat Is, in Fact, A Girl.

I got a lot of funny looks when I was pregnant. Enough that I wanted to make a t-shirt that said, "I Am Not Knocked-Up". Now that Audrey is on the outside, she needs a shirt that says, "I'm A Girl". When people look at her they see a cute happy little baby (who happens to have very little hair). Most of them see that she is wearing either pink or feminine clothes and recognize she's a girl. Others just stop at the short hair and think boy. I have this conversation at least once a day:

Random Person: Oh! He's so cute! How old is he?
Me: SHE'S nine months
RP: He has such beautiful blue eyes
M: Thanks. They're just like HER dad's
RP: What's his name?
M: HER name is Audrey
RP: Oh! She's a girl! She doesn't have any hair!

They say this as if all nine-month-old girls have flowing locks and all nine-month-old boys have crew cuts. Seriously? Ugh.

The ironic thing is all the newborn boys in our life have tons hair. Audrey's cousin, Lynden, was born last month with a head full of beautiful hair. His sister, Lily, however, was like Audrey. Bald. But she's two-and-a-half now and has the cutest blond hair. So there's hope. Until then I'll just have to not punch anyone in the grocery line.

  1. I had hair like Audrey for two years.
    Maybe its a redhead thing.
And to think that one day, people will pester her for her hair colouring sylists information, and fight her on whether or not its natural...

hair or not, shes a beauty!

  3. I love it Erin. You are so talented. I wish I could put together albums like you do of each child and grand child before the Lord calls me home. She will have curely golden locks one day soon. She is a sweetie.

  4. This is why the default comment on a cute baby should be gender non-specific. It saves everyone a lot of frustration and/or awkwardness! But honestly, Audrey looks very much like a little girl.
