Audrey's nursery is our closet. Yep. Like where we would otherwise hang
clothes we don't want to get wrinkly. That's where our daughter sleeps.
Sometimes
she doesn't sleep so we move our queen-sized mattress into the living
room. And there's usually a pile of clothes outside the door that would
have been put away had Audrey not been sleeping at the time.
Everything in her nursery has special meaning. The cross stitch
hoops, fabric and buttons are from Great-Grandma Durham's collection.
Grandma Marlene made the alphabet cross-stitch. The photo is of the
moment I met her. Aunt Melissa gave her the plaque with a quote by
Audrey Hepburn. Audrey, a student at the LLC, cut out and pasted the "a"
on the box. The green quilt was made by Great-Grandma Margaret and
Great-Aunt Judy made the pink crocheted blanket. I recovered the bumper
pad. And Süsü the Hungarian dragon presides over it all.
Like our belongings, Audrey's things can be packed into a suitcase or left behind.
This
is Audrey's space, which is shared with our space. Yes, I would love
for her to have her own room but that's the small price we pay for
living in a mansion, albeit a one bedroom apartment inside the mansion.
Ryan and I have lived in a lot of small spaces we make them work (and
homey). We're growing to appreciate the smallness and the closeness it
brings.
